With an abundance of parks, trails, and recreational and community centers close by, those who love to be in the sun will find an almost limitless list of things to do in Draper.
So, whether you’re a long-time resident, you’ve just relocated to the city, or you’re visiting the region for the first time, consider our list of recommendations on things to do in Draper, Utah the next time you feel like a breath of fresh air.
Draper City Park
Conveniently situated right in the middle of Draper’s city center, Draper City Park should be among the first destinations any visitor of the city should see. Not only does this welcoming public park have acres of sprawling, wide-open green space, Draper City Park also has numerous amenities and pavillions to take advantage of too.
Between Baseball and Softball diamonds, children’s playgrounds, a Volleyball court, Basketball hoops, two public picnic pavilions, and easy access to the Porter Rockwell Trail and Willow Creek Trail, there’s no shortage of things to do in Draper City Park.
Draper Recreational Center
While most of the newly-built Draper Recreational Center is housed indoors (convenient for those cool Draper winters), the shiny new sports complex does have an outdoor destination that’s sure to attract lots of visitors this summer.
The Draper Recreation Center’s Outdoor Pool complex is bound to be one of the most popular things to do in Draper come the warmer months. Complete with amenities including a children’s water play feature, multiple diving boards, a laned lap pool (with a depth from 0-13 feet), and plenty of surrounding lawn chairs, it’ll be hard to beat a day at this outdoor swimming spot.
Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge
If staying dry is more your thing, then how about spending a day hanging out on the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge? Spanning a collective 185 feet across Bear Canyon, this public outdoor attraction connects parts of the commonly-used Bonneville Shoreline Trail. In total, the looped trail is about 2.3 miles in length and makes for a fun, family-friendly daytime event in Draper.
While the term “suspension bridge” might make those not especially keen on heights a little wary, this sturdy bridge is perfectly safe for adults and children of all ages. Take in spectacular views of the Wasatch Mountains and the valley below from the safety of the recently constructed bridge.
Corner Canyon Loop Trail
With the plethora of hiking and biking trails within the city, one of the most universally loved things to do in Draper is to go explore them. However, one trail in particular sticks out to us — the Corner Canyon Loop Trail.
While Corner Canyon boasts an impressive array of trails, we’ve enjoyed the 3.8-mile “Loop” trail the best. Starting from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, the loop passes through Corner Canyon Road through to Canyon Hollow and Brock’s Point before “looping” back to Clark’s Trail, which makes for a fun and scenic way to spend an afternoon.
Sitting at about 836 feet in elevation, Corner Canyon Loop is open to walkers, hikers, runners, and mountain bikers alike, though is best enjoyed when the trail is less icy — primarily from April through to October.
Andy Ballard Arena
While not used exclusively for horseback riding, the Andy Ballard Arena is one of the most frequently used equestrian centers in all of Draper.
Located just a horseshoe toss away from Corner Canyon, this large, open-air dirt arena is home to many of Draper’s most loved equestrian events. And, with seating to accommodate over 1,000 spectators, the events here can be quite exciting.
So, if you’re all about riding and are eager to ‘get back on the horse,’ a visit to the Andy Ballard Arena might just be one of the most fun things to do in Draper for you. To learn more about arena reservations, click here.
