Welcome to the U of U

Many of our clients relocate to Salt Lake City to work at the University of Utah, the campus hospitals, or Research Park. While the campus itself is quite impressive, the surrounding area holds some fantastic shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions as well. Here’s what you should know before you make the move to Salt Lake City:

Research Park

Also known as Bionic Valley, the University of Utah Research Park is home to more than 40 companies and 69 academic departments. The Park is located at the southeast end of the campus and features 37 buildings that houses companies such as Evans and Sutherland, Idaho Technology, BioFire, ARUP, and Myriad Genetics.

Healthcare & Hospitals

The University of Utah Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital, U of U Health University Neuropsychiatric Institute, and other healthcare centers can be found on campus. The University is also home to the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), a cancer research facility and hospital. HCI is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the Mountain West and was ranked as one of the “Best Hospitals for Cancer” by U.S. News and World Report.

The university features six on-campus childcare centers, including part-time, full-day, Montessori, and private kindergarten options. For older children, the surrounding area features high-ranking public schools and is close to private school options as well. The I.J. & Jeanné Wagner Jewish Community Center – commonly referred to as the JCC – is a very popular community center right next to the University hospital. The center features great childcare programs, summer camps, and plenty of community events loved by locals.

The campus features a number of theatres and concert halls, including the Hayes Christensen Dance Theatre, Babcock Theatre, Libby Gardner Concert Hall, and Kingsbury Hall. There’s also the Natural History Museum, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and Fort Douglas Military Museum.

The campus has easy access to the Bonneville Trailhead, Dry Gulch Trailhead, and The Living Room Trailhead for those who love to hike or bike. The nearby Red Butte Garden and Arboretum not only features a beautiful botanical garden, but also has an amphitheater that runs a yearly summer concert series.
