The Locals

Our Local Tip:
The Downtown library has much more than books–its rooftop offers a fantastic view of the entire valley in all directions!

Parks & Nature
City Creek Park, near the historic Temple Square, includes a pedestrian pathway that will take you to Memory Grove Park, where you’ll find a peaceful escape from the city with historic monuments, green space, and an off-leash area for dogs. After a walk through Downtown’s Liberty Park, check out Tracy Aviary for a close up look at some beautiful birds.

Arts & Culture
The Gateway is Downtown’s arts and culture center and regularly features community events. The Gallivan Center is the place to be if you’re looking for live music, while Utah Jazz fans can catch a game at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Science enthusiasts have Clark Planetarium close by, a great place to see science exhibits and IMAX movie screenings.

Schools
The Gifted Music School is a non-profit music education institution with programs from preschool to high school, taught by exceptional local musicians.
Hawthorne Elementary was named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School and has a gifted and talented program that draws students from all communities.
Great preschool options in the area include the Wonderbloom Nature Playschool, Community Cooperative Nursery School, and 9th Street Montessori.

Shopping
With over 100 stores, you’ll find practically any brand you’re looking for at the world-class City Creek Mall (as well as several restaurants). For a more local shopping experience, head over to the Downtown farmers’ market held every Saturday during summer months.

Dining
Downtown Salt Lake City is home to amazing cafes, restaurants, and bars, offering something for everyone. The Park Café across from Liberty Park is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat during a day out.
